7개월 만에 프리드리히 메르츠 독일 총리와 다시 만났습니다. 양국 관계의 미래에 대한 건설적 논의를 나눌 수 있었던 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다.

한국과 독일은 수교 이후 140여 년간 우호 협력 관계를 단단히 발전시켜 왔습니다. 그 결과 자동차, 반도체, 바이오부터 통상·투자 분야에 이르기까지 다방면에 걸친 긴밀한 협력을 구축하고 있습니다.

양국은 기존의 굳건한 협력을 토대로 AI, 에너지, 방산 등 미래 먹거리를 책임질 첨단산업 분야의 전략적 협력을 한층 확대해 나가기로 했습니다. 공급망 안정, 기후위기 등 글로벌 과제에 대한 공조도 계속 강화해 나갈 것입니다.

독일 경제계가 주최하는 ‘아태비즈니스 회의’가 올해 10월 한국에서 열리는 만큼, 양국 간 호혜적 경제협력의 지평이 한 단계 더 넓어질 것으로 기대합니다.

아울러 메르츠 총리께서는 한반도 평화와 안정을 위한 협력의 의지를 보여주셨습니다. 분단의 아픔을 공유하고 있는 독일이기에, 그 의미가 더욱 남다르다고 생각합니다.

앞으로도 메르츠 총리님과 더 자주 소통하며, 공동 번영과 평화를 위한 지혜를 함께 모으겠습니다.

It was a pleasure to meet Chancellor Friedrich Merz(@bundeskanzler) again, seven months after our last meeting, and to exchange concrete views on the future of our bilateral relationship.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Republic of Korea and the Federal Republic of Germany have built a strong and enduring partnership over more than 140 years. Today, our cooperation spans a wide range of areas, from automobiles, semiconductors, and biotechnology to trade and investment.

Building on this solid foundation, we agreed to further expand our strategic cooperation in industries that will shape the future, including AI, energy, and defense. We will also continue to strengthen coordination in addressing global challenges such as supply chain resilience and climate change.

With the Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business set to take place in Korea this October, I look forward to further expanding the horizons of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between our two countries.

Chancellor Merz also expressed Germany’s commitment to working together for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. Given Germany’s own experience with division, I believe this carries special significance.

I look forward to staying in close communication with Chancellor Merz as we continue working together for our shared prosperity and peace.
