유엔 사무총장 면담

안토니우 구테레쉬 유엔 사무총장과 올해 G7 정상회의 이후 다시 만나 심도 있는 대화를 나눴습니다.

구테레쉬 사무총장은 대한민국 정부가 국제사회 분열 속에서도 균형 잡힌 목소리를 내는 등 유엔에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다고 높이 평가하며, 우리를 신뢰받는 협력 파트너로 언급했습니다. 또한 우리 정부의 대북 정책이 현명한 접근임을 인정하고, 유엔 차원의 지지와 지원을 약속했습니다.

과거 유엔의 지원으로 발전을 이룬 대한민국이 앞으로 국제 사회의 중대한 도전 과제에 보다 적극적으로 기여할 것임을 밝히며, 한반도 평화와 안보가 국제 평화와 연계되어 있는 만큼 유엔의 지속적인 협력과 지원을 요청했습니다.

올해 유엔 창설 80주년을 맞아, 대한민국 정부는 유엔과의 특별한 관계를 더욱 강화하고, 국제사회의 평화와 번영을 위한 유엔의 소임에 협력해 책임 있는 역할을 수행할 계획입니다.

I met again with UN Secretary-General António Guterres for an in-depth discussion after our earlier conversation at the G7 Summit.

Secretary-General Guterres highly appreciated the Government of the Republic of Korea playing an important role at the United Nations, such as by providing a balanced voice amidst divisions in the international community, referring to us as a trusted cooperation partner. He also recognized that our Government’s policy toward North Korea is a wise approach, and pledged the United Nations’ support and assistance.

I expressed that, having achieved development with the support of the United Nations in the past, the Republic of Korea will actively contribute to addressing major challenges facing the international community. I also emphasized that peace and security on the Korean Peninsula are closely linked to international peace, and requested the United Nation's continued cooperation and support.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations this year, the Government of the Republic of Korea will further strengthen its special relationship with the UN and fulfill a responsible role in supporting the UN’s mission to advance peace and prosperity for the international community.
