The Honorable Seo Byung-Soo, Mayor of Busan,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you so much for giving your precious time to attend this luncheon. Walking around the ASEAN Culture House this morning, I was deeply impressed by the unique and diverse cultures of ASEAN, which made me eager to visit your countries as soon as possible. I am sure that many of the visitors will feel the same.

As I mentioned at the Opening Ceremony, Korea is seeking to upgrade its relations with ASEAN to a new level. Based on my government’s new policy towards ASEAN, we will strive to strengthen our cooperation economically and politically. But more importantly, we hope to deepen the understanding between our two peoples. In this regard, I would greatly appreciate your continued interest and support for the ASEAN Culture House, so that it would serve as a milestone in writing a new chapter of our vibrant cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to express my sincere thanks to ASEAN for all the exhibits that were so generously contributed and for all the support and words of encouragement. I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Mayor of Busan and his team, for giving us full support for the successful opening of the Culture House.

I would like to once again remind you of the theme of the special exhibition, ‘Celebrating the Beauty of Marriage.’ Through the ceremony of marriage, two individuals are brought together to become a family. Likewise, the ceremony this morning, which was as special and happy as a wedding, brought ASEAN and the ROK together. Today, we are not just strategic partners. We are a big family, who share a house rich with culture.

In this spirit, I would like to propose a toast to the ASEAN Culture House and to our friendship.

아세안문화원 개원 오찬 건배사

동료 장관님들, 그리고 각국 대표분들,
밍 아세안 사무총장님,
서병수 부산시장님,
그리고 내외 귀빈 여러분,

오늘 오찬에 함께 해 주셔서 감사합니다. 방금 아세안문화원을 직접 둘러보면서 저는 아세안 국가들의 아름답고 다채로운 문화에 깊은 인상을 받았습니다. 잠깐이나마 아세안 국가들을 실제로 방문하는 것 같은 즐거운 시간이었습니다.

우리 정부의 대아세안 외교 강화 방침에 부합하도록 저도 가능한 이른 시간 내에 모든 아세안 국가들을 방문할 계획입니다만, 아세안문화원을 직접 둘러보고 나서 그러한 바람이 더욱 커졌습니다. 앞으로 문화원을 방문하게 될 수많은 관람객들도 저와 같은 느낌을 받을 것이라고 생각합니다.

개원식 때 말씀드렸듯 앞으로 한-아세안 관계는 한 번 더 크게 도약할 것으로 기대됩니다. 경제 및 정치·안보 협력도 강화해 나갈 것입니다만, 무엇보다 중요한 것은 국민 간의 이해가 깊어지고 교류가 확대되는 것이라고 생각합니다. 아세안문화원이 다양한 전시와 공연 및 강연을 통해 한-아세안 문화·인적 교류의 새로운 장을 열어갈 수 있도록 앞으로도 많은 관심과 성원을 부탁드립니다.

또한 이렇게 한국에서 아세안을 느끼고 경험할 수 있도록 자국의 소중한 물품들을 기꺼이 제공하고 많은 지지와 격려를 보내 준 아세안 측에 다시 한 번 진심으로 사의를 표합니다. 아세안문화원의 성공적인 개원을 위해 지원을 아끼지 않으신 부산시장님과 시 관계자 분들께도 다시 한 번 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.

내외 귀빈 여러분,

아세안문화원의 개원 기념 기획전시 주제는‘결혼’이었음을 상기하고자 합니다. 오늘 오찬에서는 마치 한국과 아세안의 결혼식에 오신 하례객처럼 양 집안 간에 따뜻한 덕담을 나누시고 한-아세안 관계 강화를 함께 꿈꾸어 주시기 바랍니다.

아세안문화원의 개원과 그곳에서 더욱 깊은 우정을 쌓아나갈 한국과 아세안의 미래를 위해 건배를 제안합니다.
