Press Briefing
Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations Kim In-chul
November 5, 2019  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will meet with Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Keith Krach and Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs David Stilwell of the Department of State of the United States (U.S.) on November 6.

During the meeting, Minister Kang will discuss with the U.S. side ways for comprehensively strengthening the Republic of Korea-United States relations, the regional affairs, and joint efforts toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.

After the meeting, Assistant Secretary Stilwell will pay a courtesy call on Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Sei-young.

Assistant Secretary Stilwell’s second visit to the ROK since his inauguration comes in the wake of the ROK-U.S. deputy ministerial meeting held on November 2. We hope that our close consultations at various levels on issues involving the Korean Peninsula, the alliance and the region will help strengthen the ironclad ROK-U.S. alliance.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Taeho, together with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Keith Krach, will hold “the 4th ROK-U.S. Senior Economic Dialogue” on November 6. During the Dialogue, the two sides will discuss the overall bilateral economic relations, the connectivity and cooperation between the New Southern Policy and the Indo-Pacific Strategy in such areas as development and energy, and the progress in the two countries’ efforts on global issues, including environment, healthcare and women’s economic empowerment.

The Vice Minister will also attend “the ROK-U.S. Joint Public-Private Economic Forum” to take place on November 7 in conjunction with the ROK-U.S. Senior Economic Dialogue. The Forum will cover the topics -- “Review of ROK-U.S. Economic Relations,” “ROK-U.S. Partnership in the ASEAN region,” and “Women’s Economic Empowerment.”
