Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations Kim In-chul

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

 

On the afternoon of October 24, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha will have a meeting with Mr. Josep Borrell, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain who is in the Republic of Korea accompanying His Majesty King Felipe VI on his state visit to the country.

 

During the forthcoming meeting, the two Ministers will discuss the way forward for the relations between their two countries that will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2020, and exchange views on situations on the Korean Peninsula and in major regions of the world as well as ways to work together on the international stage.

 

The meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to discuss ways to advance not only the ROK-Spain but also the ROK-EU relations with Minister Borrell, who will take office as High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in late 2019.

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha will then meet with Mr. Kent Härstedt, Special Envoy to the Korean Peninsula of the Kingdom of Sweden, this afternoon.

 

During the meeting, Minister Kang will extend appreciation to Sweden for its constructive role in the Korean Peninsula peace process, including the U.S.-DPRK working level negotiations (October 4-5) held in Stockholm. 

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha will attend a media event titled “ASEAN coffee truck” to take place at the Cheonggye Plaza, Seoul, on October 25, during which she will sample “ASEAN coffee,” a blend of coffee from the ten ASEAN member countries, with citizens, and ask for their keen attention to ensure a successful 2019 ASEAN-Republic of KOREA Commemorative Summit.


Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Tae-ho will have a meeting with Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Grete Faremo on October 25.

 

In the meeting, the two sides will discuss ways to step up the ROK-UNOPS cooperation and to help Korean enterprises build presence in the UN procurement market.

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha will have a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Winston Peters on October 29.

 

During the meeting, the two Ministers will exchange views on ways to expand substantive bilateral cooperation, situations on the Korean Peninsula and in major regions of the world, and ways to work together on regional and global stages.
