Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations Kim In-chul

October 22, 2019  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Kang Kyung-wha will attend an opening ceremony of the 18th World Korean Business Convention to take place at the Yeosu International Expo Hall in Jeollanam-do on October 22.

The Convention, expected to bring together about 1,000 overseas Korean businessmen and about 3,000 ROK entrepreneurs, serves as the largest business network platform between the ROK and overseas Korean communities. Sponsored by the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organized by the Overseas Koreans Foundation, the annual event provides assistance to the ROK enterprises entering overseas markets and contributes to facilitating exports through overseas Korean business networks.

In her congratulatory remarks on President Moon Jae-in’s behalf, Minister Kang is expected to deliver a message to commend contributions by the overseas Korean businessmen who have supported the ROK small- and medium-sized enterprises and young Koreans in entering foreign countries, and ask for overseas Koreans’ interest in and support for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.

Minister Kang will attend the 74th United Nations Anniversary Luncheon hosted by the United Nations Association of the Republic of Korea (UNAROK), and deliver a keynote speech.

In her keynote speech, Minister Kang will convey the ROK’s contribution to the United Nations (UN) and the international community, and the significance of the UN on the Korean Peninsula.

(A question-and-answer session followed.)
