Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations Kim In-chul

September 17, 2019  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Kang Kyung-wha will hold “the 2nd Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit” today at 16:00.

Officials from about 35 governmental agencies, provincial autonomous governments and public organizations will attend the meeting, during which the officials will monitor overall progress in preparations for major programs, deliverables and side events of the 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit and the 1st Mekong-ROK Summit.

In the two upcoming Summits, the ROK government will continue cooperation between governmental agencies and public organizations in order to draw outcomes that provide substantial benefits to the people of the ROK and 10 ASEAN countries, and to achieve best results in terms of protocol and logistical issues as well as safety.

On September 19, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Tae-ho will attend “the 13th Seoul Official Development Assistance (ODA) International Conference,” co-hosted by the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The forthcoming meeting, under the theme of “Promoting Co-Prosperity to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” will bring together speakers from various sectors including governments, academia and non-governmental organizations at home and abroad. The meeting is expected to contribute to enhancing public interest in and understanding of international development cooperation activities implemented by the ROK government.
