Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha will meet with Mr. David R. Stilwell, new Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the United States (U.S.), tomorrow, July 17.

​

During the meeting, the Minister will emphasize the need for maintaining the U.S.’s active role with regard to ways to further strengthen the Republic of Korea (ROK)-U.S. alliance, complete denuclearization and the permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, and the situation in the region.

On the same day, Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs and Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Yoon Soon-gu will also have a meeting with Assistant Secretary Stilwell, respectively.

Assistant Secretary Stilwell’s visit to the ROK will take place at the most appropriate time, when policy cooperation between the ROK and the U.S. is essential in the wake of President Donald Trump’s visit to the ROK in late June. It is expected to help strengthen the steadfast ROK-U.S. alliance through substantial discussions at various levels on issues concerning the Korean Peninsula, the alliance and the region.
