3rd Korea-African Union (AU) Policy Consultation Meeting Takes Place (Feb. 24)

1. The 3rd Korea-African Union (AU) policy consultation meeting was held in a virtual format in Seoul (Foreign Ministry) on February 24, with Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Koh Kyung-sok and Chairperson of the AU Permanent Representatives Committee Jean Leon Ngandu Ilunga (Ambassador of the DR Congo to the AU) leading their respective delegations.

 

2. In the consultation meeting, the two sides explored ways to strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest including the preparations for the 5th Korea-Africa Forum that they are working to hold in the second half of this year; the follow-up measures to the 4th Korea-Africa Forum; and the Korea-AU Cooperation Fund.

 

o In particular, the two sides discussed their cooperation projects, focusing on areas of shared interest, including public health and youth development, based on the MOU on the Korea-AU Cooperation Fund concluded in 2013.

 

3. The Korean government, in close collaboration with the AU, a continental organization playing a central role in African integration, will continue efforts to enhance relations with African countries and contribute to peace and stability as well as continental economic integration in Africa.
