Ministry of Foreign Affairs Holds Event for Communication with People in Celebration of 10th Anniversary of ROK’s Membership of OECD DAC

1. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Republic of Korea’s membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC) this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an event for promoting communication with the people under the theme “beautiful miracle, dream for a better world” at Marronnier Park in Daehak-ro from November 5 to 6.

 

o This event has been arranged as promotion of Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the youth jointly planned by citizens and policymakers was selected at the “2020 contest for policy communication with the people” hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in April this year.

 

2. In order to raise young people’s awareness of ODA, a psychological test vending machine will be operated at the event to find out what type of donor an individual is.

 

o Participants will be provided with the result sheet of the psychological test and small gifts, and a part of the event budget will be donated in accordance with the number of participants (5,000 won per person) in order to assist youth of developing countries in responding to COVID-19.

 

o Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs Ham Sang-wook who met the Foreign Ministry’s undergraduate supporters at the event said that the ROK which transformed from one of the poorest countries into an OECD DAC member is carrying out development cooperation to share its experiences and thereby promote the international community’s sustainable development. He also expressed hope that more young people would participate in the event and increase common understanding on ODA.

 

o Undergraduate students who proposed the activities for communication with the people said that they wanted people to know that Our Daily Action (ODA) can help the world like Official Development Assistance (ODA).

 

3. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has designated the “Development Cooperation Week (Nov. 23-27)” to mark the 10th anniversary of the ROK’s membership of the OECD DAC this year, and will continue communication with various stakeholders, including civil society, academia, international organizations, the media, and youth, on various occasions such as forums and seminars.
