The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Korean Association of Lusophone Area Studies (KALAS), will host an international academic conference in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Federative Republic of Brazil at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies on October 31-November 1.

2. The international academic conference themed “The New World Order and Future Relationship between Korea and Brazil” will bring together about 100 people -- experts in the ROK-Brazil relations at home and abroad and college students, including head of the ROK-Brazil parliamentary friendship association Won Hyeyoung, Director-General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jo Yungjoon, Ambassador of Brazil in Korea Luís Henrique Sobreira Lopes, President of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Kim In Chul, and KALAS President Chung Jae Min.

3. The academic conference to be held in the 60th year since the establishment of the ROK-Brazil diplomatic relations is expected to serve as a significant opportunity to review the progress in bilateral cooperation over the past 60 years in traditional areas, including political affairs, economy and culture; to witness the potential of cooperation in new areas such as science and technology, and information and communications; and to discuss ways to increase substantive cooperation in the future.
