1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the 10th Workshop for the Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Korea (ROK) on October 21-26. For this year’s Workshop, 15 honorary consuls in 15 countries, who are contributing to the protection of overseas Koreans and cooperation between the ROK and their host countries in various areas, including political affairs, economy, culture and education, were invited to the ROK.

The participating honorary consuls attended a dinner hosted by Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yoon Soon-gu and a seminar on the role of the overseas honorary consuls chaired by Deputy-Minister for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Lee Sang-jin; visited such industrial facilities as SK T.um and Hyundai Motorstudio; and took part in various programs designed to enhance their understanding of the ROK, including first-hand experience of Korean culture.

3. The honorary consuls noted that the Workshop had helped deepen their understanding of the ROK and that the meetings with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, honorary consuls in the ROK, and their fellow overseas honorary consuls had served as a good opportunity to discuss their role and activities as honorary consuls.

4. The 10th Workshop for the Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Korea is seen to have helped increase the number of people around the world with favorable views toward the ROK, strengthen the ROK government’s diplomatic capacity, including for the protection of the overseas Koreans, and consolidate the foundation for promoting substantive cooperation between the ROK and the host countries of the overseas honorary consuls.
