Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Has Bilateral and Trilateral Consultations with U.S. and Japanese Chief Negotiators for North Korean Nuclear Issue and Meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs

1. During his visit to Washington D.C., the United States (U.S.), Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, had a bilateral consultation with Mr. Stephen Biegun, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, on October 8. The two sides discussed the recent developments regarding North Korea, including the U.S.-North Korea working-level negotiations held on October 5, and ways forward.

 

° In addition, Amb. Lee had an ROK-US-Japan trilateral consultation with Special Representative Biegun and Mr. Shigeki Takizaki, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. With Mr. Shigeki Takizaki, Amb. Lee had a bilateral consultation as well. The chief negotiators exchanged views on ways for the three countries to cooperate in achieving substantial progress on the North Korean nuclear issue.

 

2. Amb. Lee also met with Mr. David Stilwell, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and exchanged views on North Korea-related issues as well as matters of mutual interest.
