1. The 2nd Republic of Korea (ROK)-United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign and Defense Vice Ministerial (2+2) Meeting will take place in Abu Dhabi on the morning of October 2, local time.

° The ROK-UAE Foreign and Defense Vice Ministerial (2+2) Meeting is a consultative mechanism which the two countries agreed to establish as their bilateral relations were upgraded to “special strategic partnership” during President Moon Jae-in’s official visit to the UAE in March 2018. The first Meeting was held in Seoul on October 12, 2018.  

2. During the upcoming Vice Ministerial 2+2 Meeting, the two countries will discuss the way forward for the special strategic partnership, defense and security cooperation, cooperation on the international stage, and the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East.

3. The Meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to review the progress in the ROK-UAE special strategic partnership that was consolidated by the ROK President’s official visit to the UAE in March 2018 and the UAE Crown Prince’s official visit to the ROK in February 2019, as well as to reaffirm the two countries’ commitment to close cooperation in the areas of foreign and security affairs.
