1. The government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) has decided to extend humanitarian assistance of 100,000 USD in cash through the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to help respond to dengue fever Epidemic in the Republic of Honduras.

As of July 29, 2019, the outbreak left 58 dead (including 43 children aged under 15) and 34,840 people infected with the dengue virus. On June 14, 2019, the Honduran government declared a state of Health Emergency in 12 departments with a significant increase in cases of severe dengue and a large number of death.

2. The decision for support was made considering that the virus is being transmitted rapidly; that it is most likely to spread to its neighboring countries; and that it is likely to develop into a regional healthcare crisis. The assistance from the ROK is expected to help resolve the difficulties of Honduran nationals affected by the significant outbreaks of dengue fever.

3. The ROK government will continue to join the international community’s efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases including dengue fever, measles and Ebola.
