1. In response to the entry into the Korea Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ) by three military aircraft of the Russian Federation and two military aircraft of the People’s Republic of China as well as the violation of territorial airspace of the Republic of Korea by a Russian military aircraft, all of which occurred on the morning of July 23, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Yoon Soon-gu summoned Russian Chargé d'Affaires to the ROK Maxim Volkov and Chinese Ambassador to the ROK Qiu Guohong on the afternoon of the same day, strongly protested, and called for an investigation of relevant facts and prevention of a recurrence.

2. Deputy Minister Yoon mentioned to Chargé d'Affaires Maxim Volkov that the violation of the ROK’s territorial airspace by Russian military aircraft not only undermines the friendship and trust between the ROK and Russia but also goes against international norms. Expressing deep regret, the Deputy Minister demanded that the Russian government provide an explanation, apologize and seek measures to prevent a recurrence.

° Chargé d'Affaires Volkov responded that the ROK government’s position will swiftly be reported to the headquarters. He added that a thorough investigation will be conducted and that its results will be shared with the ROK government.

3. Deputy Minister Yoon also summoned Chinese Ambassador to the ROK Qiu Guohong to express regret over the entry into KADIZ by the Chinese military aircraft and to call for the prevention of a recurrence.

4. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is sharing relevant information and responding to this case with the Ministry of National Defense.
