Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs to Visit Germany and Hold ROK-U.S. Consultation of Chief Negotiators for North Korean Nuclear Issue

1. Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, will visit the Federal Republic of Germany from July 9 to 12 at the invitation of the German government and hold a consultation on issues concerning the Korean Peninsula with Ms. Ina Lepel, Director-General for Asia and the Pacific of the Federal Foreign Office, Germany.


° Amb. Lee will have in depth discussion on the situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula in the wake of the meetings at Panmunjeom among the leaders of the Republic of Korea (ROK), the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States (U.S.) as well as between the U.S. and the DPRK with officials of Germany, a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council as well as one of the important members of the European Union.


2. Amb. Lee will also have a bilateral meeting with Mr. Stephen Biegun, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea who will visit Germany.


° The two sides will assess the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, including the ROK-DPRK-U.S. and U.S.-DPRK meetings at Panmunjeom, and discuss ways to work together to achieve substantial progress toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
