1. The government of the Republic of Korea will send a special delegation consisting of Mr. Lee Seok Hyun (head delegate) and Mr. Shin Dong-kun, members of the National Assembly, to the inauguration ceremony of President of the Republic of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, to be held on June 1.

2. El Salvador is the ROK’s traditional friend that joined the United Nations Temporary Commission on Korea (UNTCOK) in 1947, and has since built special ties with the ROK. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1962, the two countries have developed close ties of friendship and cooperation in a range of areas, including political, economic and cultural affairs.

o In addition, El Salvador, which signed the ROK-Central America FTA, is expected to become an ROK’s free trade partner soon, once the FTA enters into force following the completion of domestic procedures for ratification in each country.

3. The delegation will pay a courtesy call on President Bukele and deliver President Moon Jae-in’s letter, in which President Moon hopes to deepen and advance friendly and cooperative relations with the new Salvadoran government.
