1. The Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN, together with the Mission of the United States to ASEAN, held an “ASEAN’s 5G Capacity Building Workshop” in Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand, on May 23, 2019.

o The workshop came after the ROK and the US agreed on the need to strengthen economic cooperation in Southeast Asia in their “3^rd Senior Economic Dialogue” held in December last year. The Dialogue is a vice-ministerial-level consultative mechanism on the economic cooperation between the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Department of State.

2. The workshop, held under the theme “Policy Frameworks for the Future of 5G,” served as an opportunity to introduce future 5G technology, and to help ASEAN countries to better prepare for the 5G era.

o Especially, participants from the ROK shared their experiences accumulated through the world's 1^st 5G commercialization, and introduced the ROK’s advanced technologies.

3. Participants in the workshop said that it was a useful opportunity to discuss a range of issues, including the 5G technology, relevant policies and regulatory environment, as well as industrial potential.
