ROK Government Decides to Extend Combined US$500,000 in Humanitarian Assistance to Cyclone-stricken Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi

1. The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to extend a combined US$500,000 in humanitarian assistance to the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of Zimbabwe, and the Republic of Malawi, which sustained massive damage from a cyclone in March 2019.

 

° The three countries are known to have suffered considerable losses of lives and property damage from “Cyclone Idai.” In consideration of the extent of the damage and the international community’s request for assistance, the ROK government plans to offer US$300,000 to Mozambique and US$100,000 each to Zimbabwe and Malawi.

 

2. The ROK government’s humanitarian assistance is expected to help to restore stability in lives of people and affected areas of the three countries that are undergoing hardships caused by the cyclone.

 

3. Going forward, the ROK government, a responsible middle power country of the international community, will continue increasing its humanitarian assistance to countries and people affected by natural disasters, joining in their efforts to overcome damage from such disasters.
