Outcome of Meeting between ROK and US Top Negotiators on North Korean Nuclear Issue (Feb. 9)
1. Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, met with United States Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun on February 9, and was briefed on the results of the Special Representative’s visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The two sides discussed future strategies and possible next steps, drawing upon the results of the consultations between the US and North Korea.
2. The two sides made detailed analyses of the accomplishments of the Special Representative’s latest visit to North Korea based on the strategies for denuclearization and the establishment of a peace regime that they have closely coordinated so far, and shared their assessments. They also discussed in depth effective ways to make a success of the second US-North Korea summit.
3. The two sides shared the view that the period of time between Special Representative Biegun’s visit to North Korea and the second US-North Korea summit is very important, and agreed to continue to communicate and coordinate more closely.
