Deep-Sea Search Vessel (Seabed Constructor) to Set Sail from Cape Town, South Africa, to Search for Stellar Daisy

1. The government of the Republic of Korea selected US firm Ocean Infinity as a company to conduct a deep-sea search for Stellar Daisy (expected period: early February-late March), and concluded a contract with the company through the Public Procurement Service on December 28, 2018.

 

2. Ocean Infinity’s deep-sea search vessel Seabed Constructor will leave Cape Town, the Republic of South Africa, for the scene of the Stellar Daisy accident today at midnight, local time (07:00, February 8, KST), and begin its deep-sea search operations after arriving at the scene around February 14.

 

o Two Korean experts will board Seabed Constructor to monitor the operations and learn related technologies, and one member of the families of the missing crew will also board the vessel to watch the search operations.

 

3. The deep-sea search is the first of its kind to be conducted by the ROK for a missing ship. The ROK government will do its best to help Ocean Infinity successfully conduct the search.
