1. Consul-General of the Republic of Korea to Houston Kim Hyung-gil and Deputy Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections Kevin W. Reeves signed the “Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Mutual Recognition of Driver’s Licenses between the National Policy Agency of the Republic of Korea and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services, Office of Motor Vehicles” on January 28 (local time).

2. The MOU, which will come into effect on the 7th day after being signed, will take effect on February 4. The MOU is expected to significantly increase convenience regarding driver’s licenses by allowing Korean nationals residing in Louisiana and Louisiana citizens living in the ROK to exchange their non-commercial driver’s licenses issued by their own countries for local ones without further tests.

3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue efforts to resolve difficulties facing Koreans overseas and to improve their convenience, including by actively seeking to conclude agreements on the mutual recognition of driver’s licenses with not only other states of the United States, but also other countries where Korean nationals are living.
