1. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Spain Chun Hong-jo and Minister of Development of Spain José Luis Ábalos Meco formally signed the “Air Transport Agreement between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Spain” at the Spanish Ministry of Development on December 20.

2. The revised air transport agreement, which strengthens aviation safety regulations and allows more airlines to operate flights, is expected to increase convenience for passengers and further expand the international aviation network.

The two countries concluded the air transport agreement for the first time in 1989, and currently operate direct flights between Incheon and Madrid (three times a week), and between Incheon and Barcelona (eight times a week).

3. The ROK government will continue to conclude and revise air transport agreements to increase routes operated by Korean airlines, and make efforts to help Korean nationals travel to foreign countries in a more convenient way.

The ROK has concluded air transport agreements with a total of 87 countries, including the ROK-Spain Air Transport Agreement just signed, and agreements with 81 countries of them are in force (as of December 2018).
