1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having carried out in 2018 an improvement project for its “Diplonet,” an online system set up to provide the foreign diplomatic missions in the Republic of Korea with assistance regarding privileges and immunities, will hold a briefing session on the system for all of the foreign diplomatic missions in the ROK at the Foreign Ministry on December 20.

The “Diplonet” system, whose name has been coined with parts of “diplomat” and “network,” was first introduced in 2012.

2. The improved “Diplonet” allows the foreign diplomatic missions in the ROK to upload their official seals and signatures in the system for a better online management of various applications and approvals regarding privileges and immunities; the ROK government to provide, in cooperation with relevant agencies and through the system, the foreign missions with information on such matters as regular checkups and insurance renewals for their vehicles; and the foreign missions to update softwares for a higher security and compatibility.

3. The “Diplonet,” a system offering one-stop, online services regarding privileges and immunities, is expected to help reduce working hours and expenses, and enhance convenience for the foreign missions in the ROK. The system will also be used to provide, regularly and in advance, those missions with information regarding their vehicles, thereby and concomitantly encouraging them to abide by Korean transportation law.

° The improved “Diplonet” is expected to offer the foreign diplomatic missions in the ROK services befitting the country’s standing as an information and communications technology (ICT) powerhouse. Going forward, the Foreign Ministry will continue efforts to realize "smart administration."
