1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha held a telephone conversation with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Jeremy Hunt on November 26, during which the two sides discussed the post-Brexit Republic of Korea-United Kingdom relations and the assault on a Korean student that had occurred in London on November 11.

2. Secretary Hunt voiced regret over the collective assault on the Korean student that had occurred in London on November 11, adding that the UK government would do everything it could to support and cooperate for a swift and thorough investigation into the case and to prevent such cases from recurring. Minister Kang extended appreciation to the Secretary in response.

3. Minister Kang, offering congratulations on the signing on November 25 of the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration setting out the framework for the future relationship, suggested that the ROK and the UK continue close consultations with each other in a bid to minimize the post-Brexit legal vacuum between the two countries.

° Secretary Hunt, bringing attention to the importance of ensuring the post-Brexit continuity in the ROK-UK economic and trade ties, suggested working continuously and closely with each other in the process of the transition of the ROK-EU FTA to an ROK-UK FTA.

4. Minister Kang shared with the Secretary the recent progress in the situation on the Korean Peninsula and asked the UK, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to support the ROK government’s efforts to achieve complete denuclearization and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula.

5. The two sides noted with appreciation the robust high-level exchanges between the two countries in 2018, including the bilateral summit talks (October 19) held on the occasion of the 12th ASEM Summit (Brussels, October 18-19) and the fourth bilateral foreign ministerial strategic dialogue (London, July 18). Minister Kang voiced hope that Secretary Hunt would visit the ROK at a convenient time for the fifth bilateral foreign ministerial strategic dialogue.
