Travel Advisories Lowered for Sierra Leone and Liberia

1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea has decided to lower the travel-alert levels for the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Liberia to Level 2 (Yellow Alert/Highly Cautious) from the previous Level 3 (Red Alert/Recommend Withdrawal), effective from October 29, 2018.

° The decision was made in consideration of the fact that since the launch of the new government in Sierra Leone in April 2018 as well as the largely peaceful and fair transfer of power in Liberia in 2017 and the complete withdrawal of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) from the country in March 2018, these countries have seen no cases of political unrest, large-scale violence and critical outbreaks of endemics.

2. The ROK nationals staying in Sierra Leone and Liberia are advised to continuously pay special heed to their safety. Those planning to travel to the countries are asked to seriously mull over the need to do so.

3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will review whether to further adjust the travel-alert levels for Sierra Leone and Liberia after closely monitoring the public security situations as well as the possibility of terrorism and political unrest in those countries.
