1. Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, together with Mr. Nicolas de Rivière, Director-General for Political Affairs and Security of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, held “the 3rd Republic of Korea-French Republic high-level meeting on ways to respond to the North Korean nuclear issue” in Paris, France, on October 3. In the meeting, the Special Representative shared with his French counterpart the recent progress in the situation on the Korean Peninsula and discussed in depth with him ways that the ROK and France can work together toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

2. The ROK delegation explained the results of the three rounds of the inter-Korean summit talks held in 2018 and the progress in the United States-Democratic People's Republic of Korea dialogue, extending appreciation to France for its consistent support for the ROK government’s policy toward the DPRK.

° The French side welcomed the success of the inter-Korean summit talks as well as the adoption of the Panmunjom Declaration and the Pyeongyang Joint Declaration; expressed continued support for the ROK government’s efforts to achieve complete denuclearization and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula; and voiced France’s hope to contribute increasingly to the denuclearization process.

3. The two sides agreed to make joint efforts, in cooperation with the international community, to achieve complete denuclearization by building on the outcome of the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit Pyeongyang.

4. The meeting is seen to have served as an opportunity to further step up the already-close cooperation with France, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and one of the ROK’s closest friends, on the North Korean nuclear issue; and for France to reaffirm its firm support for the ROK government’s policy toward the DPRK.
