1. At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, a Chinese delegation, comprised of a total of 21 mid-level officials of foreign affairs offices and public security agencies of 12 provincial governments, will visit the ROK from September 17 to 21 for a future-oriented bilateral exchange project.

The delegation will be composed of working-level officials who handle exchanges between provincial governments of the ROK and China at the governments of twelve Chinese provinces, including Liaoning, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Hubei, Guangdong and Sichuan.

2. Pursuant to the agreement between the Presidents of the ROK and China, the former’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has held since 1999 an invitation program for mid-level officials who handle matters in various areas, including political, media, and cultural affairs, at Chinese provincial governments. The forthcoming visit by the Chinese delegation will mark the second of its kind in 2018 following the one in March.

3. The Chinese delegation will meet with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and visit the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Changdeok-gung (palace) in Seoul; and then travel to Jeju Island, where it will meet with exchanges-related officials of the Jeju provincial government, enhancing its understanding of the ROK.

4. The purpose of the future-oriented ROK-China exchange project is to offer China’s provincial government officials, who handle foreign, consular and public security affairs, opportunities to have first-hand experiences in and understand diverse aspects of Korea. The forthcoming visit of the Chinese delegation to the ROK is expected to help enhance the ROK-China relations and boost exchanges between provincial governments of the two countries.
