ROK Gov’t Extends Condolences on Passing of Kofi Annan

1. The Government of the Republic of Korea, along with the people of the Republic of Korea, extends its deep condolences on the passing of the 7th Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan on August 18.


2. The late Secretary-General Kofi Annan dedicated his entire life to making a more peaceful and fairer world. He left a number of legacies in various areas including international peace, development, poverty eradication, and human rights, and his endeavors earned him the highest respect from the international community. During his term as UN Secretary-General from 1997 to 2006, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions to international peace.


3. The late Secretary-General Kofi Annan's noble spirit and achievements will remain deep in the hearts of the people of the Republic of Korea, a country that has maintained a special relationship with the United Nations.
