1. The second Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) will head to Laos by plane on August 7 to help the country recover from the accident at its Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydropower dam.

° A see-off ceremony for the KDRT -- 19 medical workers and assistants -- will take place at Incheon International Airport on August 7 in the presence of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the National Medical Center, and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare.

Three out of the 22 members of the second KDRT left for Laos by plane on August 6.

° At the request of the Lao government, included in the second KDRT are epidemiologic investigators and experts in infectious disease prevention, who will work to manage cholera and other waterborne epidemics, and to prevent water pollution, respectively.

2. The first KDRT, dispatched to Laos on July 29, is carrying out medical treatment, surgeries, and other medical activities for some 200 residents suffering from internal, ear-nose-and-throat, gynecological and other illnesses at a hospital in the accident-affected Sanamxay district and at Attapeu Provincial Hospital.

The first KDRT is expected to return home between August 7 and 9.

3. The second batch of aid supplies, part of the in-kind aid worth $500,000 that the ROK government had decided to offer to Laos, was transported to the country by military transport aircraft on August 4. These supplies, including blankets, towels and water bottles, were finally handed over to the Attapeu provincial government in Laos on August 5.

Among the second batch of aid supplies were some 2,200 blankets, about 4,500 towels, and about 5,000 water bottles from the ROK government as well as some 600 sanitation kits from the Korean Red Cross.
