Chinese Government Officials in Charge of Fisheries Policies to Visit ROK

1. A Chinese delegation composed of nine government officials in charge of fisheries policies in such coastal provinces as Liaoning, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu will visit the Republic of Korea from July 2 till 6 at the invitation of the ROK Foreign Ministry.

 

° The Chinese delegation will visit a fisheries supervision agency in the ROK to be briefed on the country’s advanced maritime surveillance system and ways of managing marine pollution; as well as research institutes on marine ecology and on the conservation of fisheries resources.

 

2. The Chinese delegation’s visit to the ROK will come as part of the projects designed to strengthen ROK-China fisheries cooperation discussed at the tenth bilateral meeting on fisheries cooperation held in China in April. The visit is expected to serve as an opportunity to further step up cooperation and communication in an effort to establish a fisheries order between the two countries.

 

The ROK-China meeting on fisheries cooperation is a working-level consultative mechanism participated by the Foreign Ministries and fisheries-related government agencies of the two countries. The ROK and Chinese head delegates to this biannual meeting are the Deputy Director-General for Northeast Asian Affairs and the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, respectively.
