Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon Meets with Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand

1. On May 2, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon met with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Busaya Mathelin, who is on a visit to the Republic of Korea to attend the 3rd ROK-Thailand vice ministerial-level policy consultation. In the meeting, the Special Representative explained in detail the key results and significance of the latest inter-Korean summit, and asked for Thailand’s active interest and support for the ROK government’s efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and establish a lasting peace on the Peninsula.

 

2. Special Representative Lee stressed that support and cooperation from the international community, including ASEAN, are essential to implement the agreement reached at the inter-Korean summit.

 

o He especially said that cooperation from Thailand, the ROK’s traditional ally and strategic partner marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, as well as the chair of ASEAN for 2019, will be a great help to the ROK government in exerting efforts, and expressed hope that the ROK and Thailand will continue to maintain their close and cooperative relations.

 

3. Permanent Secretary Busaya extended congratulations on the success of the inter-Korean summit, and said that Thailand supports the ROK government’s efforts towards peace on the Korean Peninsula. She also said that Thailand will actively work to support the ROK not only on the bilateral front, but also as the chair of ASEAN for 2019.
