1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon and Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Kenji Kanasugi of the Japanese Foreign Ministry -- the Republic of Korea and Japanese head delegates to the Six-Party Talks -- held a meeting on April 23.

° During the visit to the ROK by Director-General Kanasugi, which came to follow up on the bilateral foreign ministerial meeting held on April 11, the Japanese and ROK delegations shared with each other the outcome of the US-Japan summit talks held on April 17 and 18 and the progress in preparations for the forthcoming inter-Korean summit meeting, respectively.

° In particular, the two sides, appreciative of the recent, positive changes in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, agreed to work closely together to maintain this momentum and make a success of the upcoming inter-Korean and US-North Korea summit talks.

2. The two sides, taking note of the close bilateral communication in the course of arranging inter-Korean and US-North Korea summit talks, agreed to work more closely together to achieve tangible progress toward denuclearization and build peace on the Korean Peninsula.
