10th Meeting of ROK-Tunisia Joint Committee to Take Place

1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, together with Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui of Tunisia, will hold the tenth meeting of the Republic of Korea-Tunisia joint committee at the Foreign Ministry on April 23.
° Minister Jhinaoui is a pro-ROK official who served as Councilor at the Tunisian Embassy in the ROK from 1991 till 1994.
※ The head and alternate head delegates to the meeting will be the Foreign Minister and the Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs of the ROK, and the Foreign Minister and the director-general for American and Asia-Pacific affairs of the Tunisian Foreign Ministry, respectively. The ROK delegation will be composed of 22 officials from 8 government agencies, while the Tunisian side will consist of 13 officials from 10 government agencies.
2. The forthcoming joint committee meeting will mark the first in ten years since the ninth of its kind held in 2008, with the level of the head delegate to the meeting upgraded to the ministerial level. The upcoming round will cover the progress in the ROK-Tunisia cooperation across the board as well as new ways to work together in the future.
※ The year 2019 will mark the 50th anniversary of the ROK-Tunisia diplomatic relations.
3. Tunisia is the epicenter for the “Arab Spring,” which served as a catalyst for the expansion of democracy in the Middle East. With Tunisia regarding the ROK, which has successfully achieved both democracy and economic growth, as a model for its national development, the upcoming joint committee meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to increase cooperation between the two countries in various sectors.
