11th ROK-Japan Security Policy Consultation to Take Place

1. The 11th Republic of Korea-Japan Security Policy Consultation (director-general-level 2+2 foreign policy and security dialogue) will be held in Tokyo on March 15, with Director-General for Northeast Asian Affairs Kim Yong-kil and Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Kenji Kanasugi of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs leading their respective delegations.

 

Deputy head of the ROK delegation: Park Chul-kyun, deputy director-general for international policy of the Ministry of National Defense

 

Deputy head of the Japanese delegation: Shuji Yuge, director for international policy of the Japanese Ministry of Defense

 

2. In the upcoming meeting, which will take place about three years after the 10th consultation in April 2015, the two sides will exchange views on issues of mutual concern, including the security environment in Northeast Asia, as well as the two countries’ defense and security policies and related cooperation underway.

 

The ROK-Japan Security Policy Consultation has taken place ten times until 2015 since the first one held in Seoul in 1998 under the agreement the ROK and Japanese Foreign Ministers reached in their meeting in 1997.
