1. On February 26, Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam met with AFP executives who were on a visit to the Republic of Korea for the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games. In the meeting, the senior diplomat explained the situation on the Korean Peninsula around the time of the PyeongChang sporting event.

Vice Minister Lim, calling the PyeongChang Winter Olympics very successfully and peacefully held, noted with appreciation that the inter-Korean dialogue held around the time of the event had served as an opportunity to restore inter-Korean relations and to foster a better environment for the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula; and voiced hope that inter-Korean talks will lead to US-North Korea and other forms of dialogue.

3. This meeting, part of the outreach activities toward major foreign media outlets, is expected to serve as an opportunity to help such media outlets better understand the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and the ROK government’s policy toward North Korea.
