4th ROK-EU Cyber Policy Consultation to Take Place on January 30

1. The 4th Republic of Korea-EU Cyber Policy Consultation will take place at the Foreign Ministry in Seoul on January 30. The two sides will discuss ways to step up their cooperation on cyber security.

 

o The ROK and EU delegations to the Consultation will be led by Ambassador for International Security Affairs Moon Duk-ho of the Foreign Ministry and Director for Security Policy Pawel Herczynski of the European External Action Service (EEAS), respectively.

 

o Among participants from the ROK side will be officials from relevant agencies, including the Foreign Ministry, the Korean National Police Agency, the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency. Among participants from the EU side will be officials from the European External Action Service and the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea.

 

2. In the upcoming consultation, the two sides will share their assessments of the current cyber threat environment and related policies, and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on issues of mutual interest, including the application of international law, cyber capacity-building, and responses to cyber crime.

 

o They will also exchange views on the progress made in discussions on cyber confidence-building measures at regional forums, including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), as well as their prospects.

 

3. The ROK-EU Cyber Policy Consultation has been held every year since 2014 alternately in both sides in accordance with the agreement reached in 2013 between the leaders of the ROK and the EU. It has contributed to laying the foundation for cooperation in all areas related to cyber security.
