1. Following his working dinner with Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun of the US Department of State on January 10, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon held with him on January 11 a Republic of Korea-United States meeting of head delegates to the Six-Party Talks. In their meeting, the two senior diplomats shared with each other the outcome and assessments of the recent inter-Korean high-level talks, and discussed possible diplomatic measures for moving forward the efforts to peacefully resolve the North Korean nuclear issue based on watertight ROK-US coordination.

° In the ROK-US meeting to follow up on the two recent telephone conversations between the Presidents of the two countries, the two sides discussed in advance the full range of matters related to inter-Korean dialogue and North Korea’s participation in the PyeongChang Olympics, as well as possible approaches to take in order to use the resumed inter-Korean dialogue as a momentum toward a peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue.

° The two sides agreed to hold a follow-up working-level consultation as soon as possible to step up coordination on future developments.

 2. Later in the day, Special Representative Lee met with senior advisor Matt Pottinger of the National Security Council. On January 12, he will hold meetings with acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Susan Thornton and other key US figures related to nuclear and other issues of North Korea, during which the two sides will share technical assessments of the North Korean nuclear and missile programs.
