Foreign Minister Meets with Delegation from US House Committee on Armed Services

1. On November 24, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Congressmen Mike Coffman (Chairman of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel/ five-term/ Republican/ Colorado) and Anthony Brown (first term/ Democrat/ Maryland), members of the US House Committee on Armed Services who were on a visit to the Republic of Korea. In their meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the outcome of President Trump’s visit to the ROK and the progress in the ROK-US relations as well as the North Korean nuclear issue and the security situation on the Korean Peninsula.

2. Minister Kang extended appreciation to the US Congress for seeking diverse legislations and conducting other robust parliamentary activities with regard to the Korean Peninsula in a bid to support efforts to beef up the ROK-US alliance and resolve the North Korean nuclear issue. She asked the US Congress to remain steadfast in supporting efforts to advance the ROK-US ties and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula.

3. The US Congressmen, mentioning that their visit to the ROK served as an opportunity to see for themselves the strong ROK-US alliance and combined defense posture, particularly called highly impressive the US Camp Humphreys military base in Pyeongtaek, which they visited during their stay in the ROK, and extended appreciation to the ROK government for its role in the construction of the base.
