1. The Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) and the UK’s Wilton Park will co-host an international academic conference under the theme “East Asia and the international system based on law: leadership and understanding” at Four Seasons Hotel on November 22.

o The event will be sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROK and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the UK.

2. At the upcoming academic conference, participants will discuss issues regarding the international system based on law in East Asia, prospects and solutions, analyze what impact the transboundary and non-traditional security threats facing East Asia are having on the international system based on law, and make proposals on a new governance system, drawing upon the results of their discussions.

3. The conference will be attended by experts from home and abroad, including KNDA Chancellor Cho Byung-jae (opening address), IFANS President Paik Ji-ah, Director of the Center for International Law Shin Kak-soo (keynote remarks), UK Ambassador to the ROK Charles Hay (welcome address), and Vice President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Danny Alexander.

4. Experts from the ROK, the UK, China and Japan attending the conference are expected to offer a way forward for the international system based on law in East Asia through in-depth discussions on the international system based on law.
