1. Director-General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Huh Tae-wan will hold the 4th ROK-Guatemala policy consultation with Director General of Bilateral Relations of the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry Georges De la Roche in Seoul on October 13. The two sides will discuss bilateral issues and other issues of mutual interest, including substantive cooperation in trade, investment, development cooperation, and consular affairs; cooperation on the global stage; and the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Latin America.

2. In the upcoming policy consultation, the ROK side will note that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the ROK and Guatemala in 1962, the two countries have steadily developed friendly and cooperative relations in a range of areas. The ROK side will also offer to continue to work together to further expand substantive cooperation between the two countries based on mutual trust and continued high-level exchanges.

o The ROK side will especially ask the Guatemalan side for support to resolve difficulties facing Korean companies in Guatemala and ensure their safety, as well as interest and cooperation to help Korean companies participate in infrastructure projects in Guatemala.

3. The ROK side will explain the serious security situation on the Korean Peninsula caused by the latest series of provocations by North Korea. The ROK side will also express appreciation for Guatemala’s active participation in the international community’s efforts to denuclearize North Korea, and ask Guatemala to continue to closely work together on the North.

4. The forthcoming ROK-Guatemala policy consultation is expected to serve as an opportunity to review the progress in cooperation between the two countries, marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening mutually-beneficial cooperation.
