1. In the wake of the UN Security Council ministerial meeting on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction on September 21, local time, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met bilaterally with US Secretary of State Tillerson. In the meeting, the two top diplomats reviewed the outcome of the Republic of Korea-United States summit talks held earlier in the day, and exchanged views on ways to follow up on the talks as well as on the statement issued by the head of North Korea’s State Affairs Commission.

2. With respect to ways to follow up on the summit talks, the Minister and the Secretary drew a common understanding that as agreements had been reached in various areas, the two sides should hold working-level consultations as soon as possible. On that note, the two top diplomats agreed to put into high gear consultative channels on foreign ministerial and other levels; and to meticulously prepare for US President Trump’s visit to the ROK, which is scheduled for November 2017, and thereby to seek to maintain the momentum of summit consultations.

3. With regard to the statement issued by the head of the North Korean State Affairs Commission, the Minister and the Secretary shared with each other the outcomes of their respective preliminary analyses and views; and agreed to conduct further, thorough analyses on the North Korean intent and to respond to it in close coordination with each other.

4. Based on the outcomes of the consultations with the US administration -- the summit talks and the foreign ministerial meeting -- Minister Kang will carry out outreach activities toward the US Congress and academic circle during her visit to Washington from September 24 till 26.
