Foreign Ministry’s “Young Public Diplomats” Group Conducts a Public Diplomacy Project in Indonesia

1. Seventeen members of the Foreign Ministry’s 100-strong “young public diplomats” group conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia, from December 17 to 20 one of the Foreign Ministry’s “people as public diplomats projects for 2016.”

2. The project was designed to publicize the Republic of Korea to people of Indonesia, where Hallyu (Korean Wave) is drawing keen interest, and to promote youth exchanges between the two countries. The five-day public diplomacy activity featured performances of flashmobs and traditional Korean music as well as talk concerts with Korean and Indonesian college students.

3. Any young people at home and abroad interested in public diplomacy are eligible to join the Foreign Ministry’s “young public diplomats” group. In 2016, the Foreign Ministry formed the fourth such group by recruiting 100 young people in eleven teams. The Foreign Ministry, which recruits the group members on an annual basis, will put out in January 2017 a notice inviting applications.
