OECD Seminar and an ROK-OECD Meeting to Take Place

1. On October 25, the Foreign Ministry will hold a seminar themed “the Republic of Korea and the OECD: past, present and future” in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the ROK’s accession to the OECD.

° The event will take place on the date that the ROK signed the agreement on its accession to the OECD, bringing together some 150 people, including First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam, such ranking officials of the OECD as Secretary-General Angel Gurría and Deputy Secretary-General Rintaro Tamaki, foreign diplomats to the ROK and leading figures from such sectors as businesses, academia and media outlets.

° At the opening ceremony of the seminar, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn will deliver video celebratory remarks. First Vice Foreign Minister Lim will deliver opening remarks on behalf of Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se, in which he will speak about the ROK’s development since its accession to the OECD and the former’s contribution to the latter, and present a vision for bilateral cooperation.

° The seminar, where a review will be conducted on the progress in the ROK-OECD relations and a vision for future cooperation will be presented, is expected to help enhance the ROK’s standing in the OECD and raise awareness and interest in the ROK regarding its diplomacy toward the OECD.

2. On October 25, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will meet with OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría, who will visit the ROK to attend the seminar.

° In the meeting, the two sides will review the progress in mutually beneficial cooperation between the ROK and the OECD in development and diverse other areas, and discuss ways for the two sides to work more closely together in addressing global issues.
