1. The Foreign Ministry held a meeting of its officials and those from the National Policy Agency on October 13 to seek ways to handle the aftermath of three Koreans having been shot to death in the Philippines. In the meeting chaired by Deputy Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Jeong Jin-kyu, the officials shared information on the progress in the investigation in the Philippines and discussed ways to work with the Philippine government on the issue.

2. The Foreign Ministry and its Embassy in the Philippines have put to work a “team for the protection of overseas Koreans” and a “local response team,” respectively. These teams will take measures necessary in handling the aftermath of the incident, including working closely with the public security authorities of the Philippines; continuously checking the progress in the investigation; and asking the Philippines to resolve the incident through a swift and thorough investigation.

° The National Police Agency of the Republic of Korea will send four investigation experts to the Philippines on October 13 to support the investigation by the Philippine police.

3. In efforts to better protect the ROK nationals in the Philippines, the Foreign Ministry has held meetings with high-level officials for foreign affairs and public security to ask them to better ensure the safety of the local ROK nationals; expanded the workforces at the local ROK missions to the same end; helped the Philippine police build its investigation capability; and broadened its network with local public security officers.

4. The Foreign Ministry will work closely with the Philippine government to resolve the incident as soon as possible.
