Foreign Ministry to Host a Conference on International Cooperation in Water Industry

1. The Foreign Ministry will host a Conference on International Cooperation in Water Industry in Seoul on October 17 to support bids of relevant Korean companies to expand their presence in the steadily growing global water market.

2. The Conference, which will kick off with opening remarks by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Lee Tae-ho, will consist of four sessions on the outlook of the global water market; water power generation; water supply and sewerage; and seawater desalination.

° In conjunction with the Conference, there will business meetings and other networking opportunities for relevant foreign figures and water-related enterprises at home.

3. Arrangements are being made for the foreign guests to attend in group the “Korea International Water Week 2016” event, which will be co-held by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Environment, Daegu Metropolitan City, Gyeongsangbuk-do (north Gyeongsang province), and the Korea Water Resources Corporation in Daegu from October 19 through 22. The event is expected to serve as an opportunity to publicize the Korean water industry’s advanced technology for smart water management and seawater desalination, and to increase cooperation projects between foreign and Korean enterprises.

4. The Foreign Ministry will use the Conference to support bids of Korea’s water-related companies, which are looking for new business opportunities, to expand their presence in the global water market. To that end, the Ministry will render assistance through its overseas missions and work more closely with other relevant government agencies and organizations as well as private companies.
