1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Kim Hong-kyun will visit Moscow, Russia, on September 29 for a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov in their capacity as the Republic of Korea and Russian head delegates to the Six-Party Talks.

° In the forthcoming meeting, the two sides will discuss in depth a wide range of ways to address the nuclear and other North Korean issues, including the UN Security Council’s possible responses to North Korea’s fifth nuclear test.

2. Prior to his visit to Russia, Special Representative Kim will attend the 60th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna and deliver a keynote speech on September 27, in which he will stress that in the face of the grave, current situation, where North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests in 2016 alone, the international community should take a strong, united step in a bid to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.

° On the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference, the Special Representative will meet with IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano and Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) to make an assessment of North Korea’s fifth nuclear test and exchange views with them on ways to respond to it.
