Consular Assistance Team to Work in Rio during the Rio 2016 Paralympics

1. The Foreign Ministry’s consular assistance team will work in Rio during the Rio 2016 Paralympics, which will take place from September 7 to 18, to better protect the nationals of the Republic of Korea who will visit the city during the event.

2. The consular assistance team, comprised of officials of the Foreign Ministry headquarters and members of the local ROK diplomatic mission, will undertake the following missions in Rio from September 6 till 19.

° In the event of incidents and accidents involving ROK nationals, render assistance with reporting the damage and/or injuries to the police and provide interpretation services; issue travel certificates to those who get their passports stolen or lost; in the event of terrorist incidents or disasters, protect and relocate Koreans to a safer place; and swiftly gather information on public security and terrorism and respond to crises in close cooperation with relevant local agencies

3. In a bid to prevent the ROK visitors to Rio from falling victim to crimes, the Foreign Ministry will provide information on the local public security through its skype community for “safe travel during the Rio Olympics” and is sending out SMSs to the ROK visitors to Brazil, urging them to pay heed to their safety and to take precautions against infectious diseases.
