Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs to Visit the Philippines and Australia

1. Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Han Dong-man of the Foreign Ministry will visit the Philippines and Australia from September 5 to 10 to seek ways to work with them on public security and consular affairs as well as ways to better ensure the safety of the nationals of the Republic of Korea in those countries.

° An ROK delegation comprised of officials of the Foreign Ministry and the National Policy Agency will visit the Philippines to discuss with the country’s new, Duterte government officials in charge of public security and foreign affairs ways to step up cooperation on public security and to better ensure the safety of the local ROK nationals.

° The delegation will also meet with members of the local Korean community and missionary groups to learn about their relevant difficulties and ask the missionary groups to pay serious heed to their safety while at work.

° The delegation will deliver letters from the Commissioner-General of the ROK National Policy Agency to the heads of the Philippine National Police and the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, in which the ROK Commissioner-General expresses hope for closer police cooperation between the two countries.

° Ambassador Han will also visit Australia, the country with the largest number of Korean participants in the working holiday program. He will ask the Australian government to pay attention and render assistance to the Korean participants in the program so that they can work in safe and reasonable working conditions.

2. Ambassador Han will share with relevant government officials of the Philippines and Australia information on the Global Consular Forum, which is set to take place in Songdo in October 2016, and ask them to take an active part in the efforts to make a success of the event.
